Belly dancer celebrates Lorenzo Cain triple with graceful performance

main image

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, I'm gonna put this here first:

belly dance

 noun

: a usually solo dance emphasizing movements of the belly

"Belly Dance." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2013.

By definition, this fan was simply partaking in a centuries-old Middle Eastern tradition -- and doing so to celebrate Lorenzo Cain's RBI triple. What you may see as the flailings of a man in the midst of late-inning hysteria is actually the highly codified language of dance. We laypeople cannot understand its subtlety, but rest assured that it's there and it's quite moving.

The fact that he spontaneously recalled years of kinetic training -- following back-to-back triples in a game with playoff implications, no less -- is positively beautiful.

David Brown of Big League Stew tracked down the fan -- Jimmy Faseler of Independence, Mo. -- and scored a pretty delightful interview:

"I got a text from my mom that said, 'Hey, sweetie, saw you on TV. You need a longer shirt.' "

No way, mom -- Faseler's shirt is precisely the right length.
