On Kenny Rogers' 49th birthday, let's remember his perfect game from '94

Kenny Rogers was one of those players whose career only got more and more prominent as he aged -- three out of his four All-Star selections came at ages 39, 40 and 41 (in 2004, '05 and '06). The soft-tossing lefty ended up pitching until he was 43, but his greatest achievement actually came well before that.

Unlike the present decade, which is 40 percent complete but historically awash in perfectos already, the '90s were a typically barren time for them. On July 28, 1994, Rogers pitched the only one that would happen between '91 and '98, blanking the Angels at the then-brand new Ballpark in Arlington.

The feat earned him a trip around the talk-show circuit, led to an All-Star selection the next year ... and even precipitated a meeting with the singer who shares his name.
