Go crazy, folks: It's Ozzie Smith's birthday

The Cardinals legend (who was also an All-Star for the Padres at the beginning of his career) was best known for spectacular defensive plays like this:

But his career's most famous moment was probably the offensive one you see above. In Game 5 of the 1985 NLCS between the Dodgers and Cardinals, with the score tied at 2 in the ninth inning, Smith stepped up to the plate against Los Angeles closer Tom Niedenfuer. In eight big league seasons up to that point, he had never hit a home run batting left-handed.

That didn't stop him from cracking a walk-off homer, eliciting a now-classic call from Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck and creating one of the greatest moments of a Hall of Fame career. Happy 59th, Ozzie!
