Nothing is confirmed, but announcer Jeff Van Gundy mentioned during Friday's Nets-Thunder game that T-Mac may try out for the independent Sugar Land Skeeters this season.

"Speaking real quickly of McGrady, I think he's going to play independent league baseball as a pitcher this year. In the independent league," Van Gundy said.

TV partner Mike Breen questioned the statement, but T-Mac's former coach in Houston stuck by the story.

"I'm being serious. I've heard from sources in Houston -- seriously -- that he's throwing over 90 miles per hour. The Sugar Land Skeeters, Roger Clemens pitched for them last year. It was awesome."

And Randy Mcllvoy, sports director at KPRC-TV Houston, has since confirmed the news:

Ninety-one miles per hour? Working out with Roger Clemens? Not bad. And as far as hitting, well, we already know McGrady takes after Ruth:

UPDATE 2/4
