Happy 80th birthday to Hammerin' Hank Aaron

main image

Mickey Mantle called him "the best ballplayer of my era," and let's face it, he may have been the best of any.

Hank Aaron holds the all-time record for RBIs (2,297), total bases (6,856), extra base hits (1,467) and home runs by a right-handed batter (755). He won an NL MVP, was selected to 24 All-Star teams, tallied 3,771 hits and helped the Milwaukee Braves to a 1957 World Series. His 131.6 career WAR ranks seventh in baseball history.

But Aaron's most iconic moment had to be in 1974, when he broke Babe Ruth's career home run record with his 715th long ball. You can see it in the clip above. Hank would go on to hit a total of 755 homers, surpassed only by Barry Bonds in 2007.

Happy 80th birthday, Mr. Aaron. Enjoy it.
