Remember that time Livan Hernandez whiffed 15 Braves in the NLCS?

Livan Hernandez made his retirement official on Thursday, ending a career that included stops with nine teams, two All-Star appearances, a World Series MVP -- and this unforgettable NLCS gem from his 1997 rookie season.

While Hernandez actually spent more years with the Expos/Nationals organization than any other, he might be best known for his performance with the Marlins on October 12, 1997. As a rookie, the right-hander struck out 15 Braves to set an LCS record (that was matched the very same day by Mike Mussina). While some might say he was aided by a generous strike zone that day, it remains a defining moment in Marlins history.

Hernandez was known throughout his career for his durability, and also his hitting:

He won a Silver Slugger and, while playing for the Giants in 2001, recorded a hit in eight consecutive at bats (only two short of an NL record).

Congratulations on a great career, Livan.
