Kid who threw out telerobotic first pitch last year throws one in-person in Oakland

main image

You might remember Nick LeGrande as the teenager who threw out Major League Baseball's first telerobotic first pitch, last year. LeGrande suffers from a rare, life-threatening blood disease called severe aplastic anemia.

After throwing out that first pitch at the Coliseum via robot last year, LeGrande and Athletics reliever Ryan Cook have become close, texting about video games and (of course) A's baseball. LeGrande underwent a successful bone-marrow transplant and was medically cleared to travel from Kansas City to Oakland to throw out another first pitch ... in person.

Cook caught it and posed for some photos with his buddy because sometimes the best part about baseball has very little to do with baseball at all.
